Jimmy Wales – founder of Wikipedia, one of the most popular websites in the world – believes mobile apps may finally give news providers a successful way of charging for digital content.
Apple used its media event in San Francisco today to provide official updates on its app store offering, whilst the vendor also upgraded its TV service but appeared reluctant to join industry momentum uniting such services with apps. In just over two years since launch, Apple’s App Store has created a new business model for the mobile industry and now boasts 250,000 apps on offer and more than 6.5 billion downloads (that’s 200 apps every second)…
Mobile browser company Skyfire has submitted a mobile browser to Apple’s App Store which it says is “capable of playing Flash video while adhering to all Apple’s guidelines regarding HTML5 open-video standards on Apple devices”.
Stock analysis startup Trefis believes Nokia’s acquisition of mobile Web analytic service Motally could improve the Finnish vendor’s Ovi store and app offering, in turn boosting its stock price and halting the firm’s overall decline.
