Chunghwa targets 7M 4G user by year-end
Taiwan’s largest operator Chunghwa Telecom aims to expand its 4G user base 27 per cent to seven million by the end of the year.

In the first half of the year it added 1.1 million 4G connections to take the total to 5.5 million or half of its mobile user base.

The operator, with a 33 per cent overall market share, is targeting taking 39 per cent of the country’s 4G connections, which are forecast to reach 18 million by year-end, China Post said.

MobiFone pilots 4G services
Vietnam’s second largest mobile operator MobiFone is piloting 4G and its MobiTV services in the country’s three major cities — Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

The services include LTE Broadcast (eMBMS), LTE Unicast, 4K TV and online games, Viet Nam News reported.

China’s mobile gaming market set to peak
China’s mobile gaming revenue jumped 116 per cent year-on-year in Q1 to CNY20 billion ($3 billion).

Despite the robust growth, Beijing-based iResearch believes the number of mobile game players has peaked, which will limit future growth. Monthly active mobile game players reached 405 million in February but fell in March to 371 million.

Globe opens operations in Japan
The Philippines’ second largest operator Globe Telecom has set up operations in Japan to better serve the 180,000 overseas Filipinos in the country.

The new company, GlobeTel Japan, is based in Tokyo.

The operator also announced it will close its offices in the UK, Italy and Spain, which it opened in 2014, citing “the changing competitive landscape in Europe”.
