Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo team on file transfer

03 JAN 2020

Chinese device makers Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo established the Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance to enable file transfer for consumers across different handset brands.

The wireless file transfer system, using Bluetooth for pairing and Wi-Fi P2P technology for data transfer, allows users to move files between their mobile devices without the need for third-party applications or a cellular network, Xiaomi said.

This wireless transfer feature has been available on MIUI 11, Xiaomi’s homegrown software platform.

The system delivers an average transfer speed of 20Mb/s. The Wi-Fi P2P technology does not interrupt the Wi-Fi connection, allowing users to stay connected and continue their activities on the device during the transfer, the vendor said.

The alliance is looking for additional partners.

Chew Shou Zi, Xiaomi SVP, said by joining hands with Vivo and Oppo, two industry leaders with a strong user base, “we are expecting to benefit smartphone users globally. Xiaomi will continue to bring more strategic partnerships of this sort to our users and Mi Fans”.
