Vodafone New Zealand acquired VoIP and converged service firm WorldxChange for an undisclosed sum, to complement its enterprise business.

WorldxChange, set up in 2000, is a specialist in converged unified communications services and provides communications services to government and corporate as well as residential customers.

In a statement, Vodafone said WorldxChange’s model includes capabilities for automating provisioning and self-service support, to give users increased flexibility and transparency.

Paul Clarkin, WorldxChange’s CTO,  said it will combine its existing product set, technical capability and pre-sales expertise with Vodafone’s sales and marketing competence and technology team.

“This is a strong, positive move for us. The decision will see WorldxChange become a Unified Communications Centre of Excellence for Vodafone, showcasing our design and development know-how,” Clarkin said.

WorldxChange will become a wholly-owned Vodafone subsidiary, governed by a combined board from both WorldxChange and Vodafone NZ.

Vodafone has a 41 per cent market share of New Zealand’s mobile connections — ahead of Spark’s 36 per cent, according to GSMA Intelligence.
