Australia’s largest operator Telstra has appointed Warwick Bray as CFO, replacing Andrew Penn who starts as CEO tomorrow.

Telstra previously named Penn to replace David Thodey as CEO, who announced his retirement in February after six years at the helm.

Bray (pictured), currently group managing director of products, joined Telstra in 2009 as head of corporate strategy, working with out-going CEO David Thodey to redefine its corporate growth strategy and renew its focus on customer service.

He became the head of the mobile unit in 2010 before moving into his current role, where he’s been responsible for mobile, cable, ADSL, PSTN, NBN and WiFi products.

Bray was chairman of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association from 2012 to 2014, a director of Telstra’s former Hong Kong mobile subsidiary – CSL – from 2012 to 2014, and serves on the strategy committee of the GSMA.

Prior to joining Telstra, he worked in investment banking in Australia and the UK. He spent almost 10 years at McKinsey and Company in London and Melbourne.

Bray has more than 25 years of experience in finance, strategy, telecommunications and business development.
