Singapore’s StarHub last week delivered four channels of ‘live’ high-definition coverage of the ‘Rising Starts’ at the Women’s Tennis Association Singapore finals to customers directly from base stations at the venue.

The multimedia coverage allowed spectators to view different perspectives of the action from their mobile devices and to zoom by selecting multiple camera angles.

The trial used Nokia’s ‘Liquid Application’ to store, process and deliver the content from the operator’s 4G base stations at the indoor Sports Hub.

“We are excited about the potential in moving digital content to the farthest edge of our mobile network – the base stations,” said StarHub CTO Mock Pak Lum. “This significantly reduces lags and boosts surfing quality.”

John Lancaster-Lennox, head of Asia South at Nokia Networks, said that in addition to improving network performance, the Liquid Application can deliver “innovative, localised and personalised mobile broadband services”.

StarHub said it will conduct additional trials using the application from Nokia.
