Hong Kong’s SmarTone has introduced unbundled plans that give customers the flexibility to upgrade their smartphones during the 12-month contract period at significant discounts.

Customers opting for its 6GB or 10GB unbundled plans can buy a 4G smartphone, with the option to buy another within the contract period. The monthly plans are priced at HKD316 ($41) and HKD456.

SmarTone CEO Douglas Li said that many customers say they want to upgrade their smartphones more frequently than what the typical 24-month contract allows. “With the new plans, we offer customers the freedom to upgrade their smartphones within a 12-month contract as and when they wish, and at great prices.”

The operator said the plans cover a wide range of models spanning all price points, including the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note4, Sony XperiaTM Z3, LG G3 and HTC Desire Eye.

SmarTone, with a 15 per cent market share, is the territories’ fourth largest operator, behind CSL, 3 and China Mobile HK.
