Singtel looks to secure transport sector

28 JAN 2019

Singtel teamed with Argus Cyber Security to improve protection for Singapore’s transportation sector, preparing for the introduction of connected cars and new technologies such as autonomous vehicles.

As part of an MoU, the operator said it will launch a suite of services based on Argus Cyber Security’s in-vehicle technologies and standalone backend platform, which analyses data collected from vehicles, mobile apps, cellular networks, cloud platforms and other sources. The data will be integrated with the managed security services portfolio of Trustwave, Singtel’s cyber security arm.

In a statement, the operator said the platform can help automakers and fleet managers to protect vehicles that are already on the road without making any modifications to them.

Joint R&D
The companies also agreed to set up a research lab to develop and test cyber security solutions for autonomous vehicles at the Singtel Cyber Security Institute.

Ofer Ben-Noon, co-founder and CEO of Argus Cyber Security, said: “This partnership is another important leap forward towards delivering multi-layered, security solutions and services that make mobility intelligent and secure.”

He added it wants to broaden the scope of the partnership to cover co-creating the next generation of cyber security solutions and services for the autonomous vehicle industry.

Bill Chang, head of Singtel Group Enterprise, said: “With a secure ecosystem, automobile manufacturers and automotive equipment providers can safely collaborate and develop advanced solutions for commercial and industrial autonomous vehicles.”
