Japan’s largest operator NTT Docomo has appointed a new CEO as well as six new members of the board in a move it simply said was designed to “further grow and develop the company”.

Kato is expected to become a corporate advisor and will continue to sit on the board. He has been with the operator for nearly forty years.

The appointments, which need to be approved at the shareholders’ and board of directors’ meetings on 16 June, come just weeks after Docomo reported the continued recovery of its telecoms business, with its net profit for its fiscal year ending 31 March expanding 34 per cent, while overall operating revenue for the year rose 3.3 per cent.

The six board appointments are Hiroshi Tsujigami, Kyoji Murakami, Kyoji Murakami, Seiji Maruyama, Shinichiro Ueno and Noriko Endo (independent director). Four current members of the board will step down after the June board meeting.

Senior EVP Yoshikiyo Sakai, who is on the board, has resigned and is expected to join NTT Finance Corp. Hiroyasu Asami and Toshiki Nakayama, currently EVPs and members of the board, will be promoted to senior EVPs.

The operator also announced the promotion of six senior VPs (five SVPs have resigned) and two EVPs.
