Indian device maker iBall signed a global patent licensing agreement with Ericsson, resolving the patent infringement dispute between the two companies.

The agreement follows an order from the Delhi High Court for the firms to meet in an attempt to finalise fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms of a licence agreement.

The court order, which was made public on Friday, stated that iBall has accepted a worldwide non-transferable and non-exclusive patent licence.

In September the Delhi court issued an injunction on iBall from importing mobile handsets and tablets that infringe on essential patents of the Swedish telecoms gear maker.

Ericsson had sued iBall for failing to sign a licensing agreement on standard-essential patents covering wireless technologies. The lawsuit has now been dismissed.

iBall is the top tablet brand in India, with a 14.9 per cent market share in Q2. It also makes smartphones, laptops and wireless routers.

Ericsson has entered into more than 100 licensing agreements with other telecoms companies over its essential patents.
