Chinese handset maker Vivo and US chipmaker Qualcomm have entered into a 3G and 4G patent licence agreement for China.

The deal comes just a week after rival Oppo signed a similar deal with Qualcomm.

Qualcomm granted Vivo a royalty-bearing patent licence to develop, manufacture and sell 3G and 4G devices for use in China. The royalties are consistent with the terms of the rectification plan submitted by Qualcomm to China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), after it was fined $975 million more than a year ago by China’s antitrust regulator and agreed to modify its licensing practices and reduce royalties to satisfy the government’s anti-competitive ruling.

Vivo VP Shi Yujian said it has closely collaborated with Qualcomm in China and globally in the past. “We have worked together on some of the popular Vivo devices such as the X7, X7Plus and Xplay5.”
