China’s mobile broadband (3G and 4G) penetration reached 64 per cent in Q2, while its household fixed broadband penetration rose to 57 per cent, according to the Broadband Development Alliance.

Over the past six months fixed broadband penetration jumped 16.6 percentage points and mobile broadband penetration increased 6.8 points, C114.net reported.

The country had 838 million mobile broadband connections and 278 million fixed broadband connections at the end of June, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). During the period it added 183 million 4G connections to take the total to 613 million. Market leader China Mobile has 429 million 4G connections.

China Mobile also has been aggressively pushing fixed broadband, adding 11 million connections in H1 to take its total to 66 million, only slightly behind China Unicom with 74 million. China Telecom is the leader with 138 million.

China has the largest mobile and fixed broadband markets in the world by a large margin.
