China’s three mobile operators added 28.8 million 4G subscribers in June, taking the country’s total to 591 million.

China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile operator, again led the industry by adding 19 million 4G subscribers to take its total to 428.5 million in June, while China Telecom expanded its 4G user base by 5.6 million to 90 million.

The country’s second largest operator China Unicom continued to lag the 4G market, adding 4.2 million 4G users to take its total to 72.4 million.

According to GSMA Intelligence, China accounted for 43 per cent of the world’s 1.38 billion LTE connections at the end of June.

The country’s total mobile subscriber base grew to 1.3 billion in June after China Mobile added 1.6 million subscribers (total 837 million), China Telecom signed up 1.43 million (207 million) and China Unicom reported a net increase of 586,000 (nearly 261 million).
