GlobalData forecast Asia Pacific (APAC) would lead the world in 5G adoption and revenue, with average monthly data usage in the region expected to more than double from 5GB in 2019 to 11GB in 2024.

The data and analytics company predicts 5G subscribers in the region will reach 1.14 billion in 2024, representing 65 per cent of the global total. By that time, the region will generate 44 per cent of global 5G revenue, followed by North America on 32 per cent.

GlobalData said countries with early 5G launches are likely to lead mobile data traffic growth, tipping South Korea, China, Japan and Australia to lead the way in APAC

However, the company expects less impact from 5G in 2020, as operators and vendors are still working on rollout plans. GlobalData predicts 5G subscribers to account for less 5 per cent of total mobile users in 2022 (see chart left, click to enlarge).

GlobalData expects the growth rate of 5G to be comparatively high due to more use-cases.
