In collaboration with China Mobile, the country’s biggest mobile operator, Nokia launched the Windows Phone 8 Application Innovation Campaign on 19 July.

The campaign’s aim, according to the China Daily, is to get more than 1,000 ideas within four months.

The initiative is being championed by Erik Bertman, Nokia’s newly-appointed general manager in the country.

Bertman, according to the China Daily report, said the Windows Phone ecosystem had a total of 160,000 apps, including 70,000 apps targeted at Chinese consumers.

The newspaper notes that Bertman is Nokia’s fifth head of China operations in the past four years.
