Social gaming giant Zynga acquired social games developer OMGPOP, maker of the “popular cultural hit mobile game” Draw Something, as well as more than 35 additional social games. It said that OMGPOP will focus on “building new mobile IP and strengthening its existing portfolio of fun and creative social games.”

The companies did not disclose the value of the deal, but multiple reports put the figure near US$200 million.

In the six weeks since Draw Something launched, it has been downloaded more than 35 million times. It is available on Android, iOS and Facebook, and is the number one word game in the Apple App Store in 84 countries.

Zynga has recently been increasing its presence in mobile to augment its position in Facebook games, stating that with 15 game launches in the past two quarters, “Zynga Mobile is bringing a variety of genres and games to reflect its players’ lifestyles and provide them with the social experiences  they want, at any time and on any device, regardless of platform.”

The company previously made a number of acquisitions to bolster its mobile efforts, revealing in a regulatory filing late last year that it had 11.1 million active daily mobile users. Its With Friends range of apps began following its acquisition of Newtoy late in 2010.

OMGPOP began life as iminlikewithyou, a social network for users to meet and play games.
