Yahoo launched a “fully redesigned” version of its Yahoo Mail app for Android and iOS, on the eighteenth anniversary of the service’s first launch.

The app will now manage email accounts from Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL Mail as well as Yahoo Mail, and includes a “password-free sign-in experience” called Yahoo Account Key, which the company says takes “user convenience and security to the next level”.

Account Key uses push notifications to provide a secure way for users to access their Yahoo accounts and is “more secure than a traditional password because once you activate Account Key – even if someone gets access to your account info – they can’t sign in”, the company said.

It also said it has “made a significant investment in the technology that powers the app, so it’s fast and responsive.”
