Yahoo has said it will withdraw its Livestand for iPad app just six months after it was launched, as part of a wider platform consolidation effort. Despite the company saying it had received “great feedback” on the digital newsstand app, it appears not to have met the company's expectations.

At its launch Yahoo said of Livestand that it “weaves together content from leading third-party publishers and Yahoo’s global media network to create a visually stunning and deeply personalised digital experience tailored to people’s interests and passions.”

In a post on the Yahoo corporate blog, the company said it had “learned a lot” from Livestand, including that it can develop high-quality products based on HTML5.

The company added that it is “pivoting to a mobile-products-first development model,” with its Axis mobile browser the most recent example of its efforts to move in this direction. It added that one of its biggest priorities is “to innovate for the mobile user.”

Yahoo announced in January that it planned to streamline its mobile app portfolio with Yahoo News and Yahoo Movies for Android, Yahoo Finance for BlackBerry and Yahoo Deals for iPhone all canned. Other apps were replaced by additional features in the core Yahoo Search app.
