Yahoo Messenger, described by the company as “one of the most important products in its history”, has been revamped with features including animated gif search and share plus the ability to unsend messages.

Jeff Bonforte, senior vice president of communication products and engineering at Yahoo, said the company is “excited to introduce the next generation” of the product.

“The messaging space has grown dramatically, yet people ultimately want a fast and easy way to communicate with each other. This is just the beginning of what’s to come,” he added.

The app (also available for the web and in Yahoo Mail on the desktop) includes photo sharing powered by Flickr, and the ability to “avoid potential embarrassment” with an unsend feature which works for messages, photos and gifs. Yahoo said this makes the messenger both “ephemeral” and “permanent”.

The update also adds the ability to “like” photos, messages and gifs.

Yahoo Messenger is on the Apple App Store and Google Play in English and will be available in other languages soon.
