WildTangent announced worldwide availability of the WildTangent Games App for Android, which it describes as “a new curated service that offers top quality games for free, rental or ownership in one convenient mobile app.”

Customers pay for apps using the company’s virtual currency, WildCoins. The service is accessible across multiple devices and platform.

Prices vary per title, with 24-hour game rental sessions starting from 1 WildCoin (US$0.25, £0.12 or EUR0.14).

The enabling app can be downloaded on smartphones or tablet PCs running Android 2.2 or higher, and is currently only available in English.

WildTangent said the service is based on an online/PC counterpart, which is “currently enjoyed by millions of monthly active users.”

Sean Vanderdasson, SVP of the company, said:  “just like movies and music, consumers prefer to own some titles, rent some and watch some for free, and we’ve brought these same options to games. With our new Android service, game developers will expose their games to widest audience possible, using the most comprehensive business model in the games industry.”

The WildTangent service was launched by T-Mobile USA earlier this year. It is now being preloaded on a number of new Android tablets, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

WildTangent also announced a partnership with Sony, which will see new device buyers receiving 20 free WildCoins to use with the service. Sony has recently introduced its first tablets powered by Android – Sony Tablet S, and the dual-screen Sony Tablet P.
