More than 1,000 apps have been built for Windows and Windows Phone using Unity, following a collaboration formed in June to enable Unity developers to publish their apps for the Microsoft platforms.

David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies, said: “This milestone is a powerful reminder of the incredible flexibility of the Unity technology and developer community.”

In a blog post, Microsoft noted that while Unity is designed to operate cross-platform and ensure a smooth recompiling experience, “still, each platform is unique”.

In order to address this, it has developed technical guides that explain how to bring Unity apps to Windows Store and Windows Phone store, including specifics of the platform, what is needed to get started, how to address platform-specific edge cases, and how to address roadblocks.

Microsoft and Unity Technologies have already held a porting lab in Canada, and has further events scheduled for London (29 November), San Francisco (13-14 December) and Finland (multiple dates in January 2014).
