Deutsche Telekom struck a strategic partnership with Twitter which will see a widget for the microblogging service preloaded onto selected Android devices sold by the German operator group in Europe.

The companies said Twitter will “create a unique experience for Deutsche Telekom devices” by allowing users to access the service from their mobile homescreen from the beginning of 2014.

Customers “will have instant access to what’s happening in the world in real time, right out-of-the-box,” according to the operator.

As well as the inclusion of the widget, Deutsche Telekom will be Twitter’s preferred partner for “innovative marketing, advertising and customer service opportunities” in Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Greece and Croatia.

“Twitter shows how lively a communication in 140 characters is. We experience this in our daily dialogue with our clients for example via our customer care account ‘Telekom hilft’. With the cooperation with Twitter we will reach even more people in the future even better,” said Rene Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom.

“When important moments happen in Europe, the conversations about them happen live on Twitter. We are delighted to be working with Deutsche Telekom to make it even easier for their customers to share those moments,” added, Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter.

Twitter’s Q3 results showed how the company is increasingly reliant on mobile advertising. More than 70 per cent of the company’s advertising revenue came from phones and tablets during the three months ended September, up from 65 per cent the previous quarter.
