Twitter takes on Cover app team

09 APR 2014

Twitter acquired the team behind Android personalisation app Cover because they share a vision that “smartphones can be a lot smarter – more useful and contextual”.

Cover “learns which apps you use in different contexts and puts them right on your lockscreen for easy access”. In a blog post, the company said that “for now, Cover will remain in the Play Store while we focus our attention on our work at Twitter” – indicating that it is unlikely to see much in the way of further development.

The move follow’s Yahoo’s earlier acquisition of Aviate, a company which similarly looks to use contextual information to personalise users’ device experience.

Engadget suggested that rather than looking at Cover’s home screen expertise, Twitter may be looking to use its context-awareness experience to improve the core Twitter app – ensuring users are presented with the most appropriate information.
