Twitter rolled out a “go live” button for some users of its app, which will enable them to easily launch a Periscope stream.

A “small percentage” of Android users will see the button, The Verge reported. Users who do not have the Twitter-owned live streaming app installed will be taken to the Google Play Store.

The feature will be rolled out to all users “over time”.

The move comes just over a month after Facebook announced new features for its Live service, giving users more ways to personalise their broadcasts, and pitting it against Periscope.

Periscope also upped its game by announcing an upgrade last week that will allow users to search for specific broadcasts by title or topic, as well as revealing plans to support live-streaming on footage shot by drones.

Ad update
Separately, Twitter announced it is beta testing a way for developers to display ads from MoPub, its advertising exchange, directly within Twitter Kit timelines in Android and iOS apps.

By integrating its Twitter Kit and MoPub SDKs, Twitter said it has made it easy for developers to plug their app into “the world’s conversation and one of the world’s largest mobile ad exchanges at the same time”.

With a few lines of code, developers can engage users with a timeline of tweets and build their business with native MoPub ads “that fit seamlessly into the stories” they want to tell.

“This doesn’t just open up a new canvas for you to monetise; we’ve also taken care of all the ad rendering, so you don’t have to worry about performance or how to display the ads,” the company said.

It added that it has made sure ads match the theme and colour preferences set by developers in Twitter Kit, so they fit the look and feel of their apps.
