Mobile HTML5 development framework newcomer Trigger launched, with US$1 million of angel funding.

San Francisco-based Trigger provides a platform that web developers can use to build native mobile apps for Android, iOS and desktop browsers using a single HTML5 codebase. The technology is comparable with Appcelerator's Titanium platform.

Once developers have built applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript they can then use the tools on Trigger’s Forge platform to convert them to native apps with offline access and native functionality, including notifications, camera and file access.

Trigger co-founder and CEO Amir Nathoo said mobile apps are no longer just about iOS, with Android becoming increasingly widespread. “This shift makes HTML5 extremely important as a cross-platform technology. But native functionality is needed to take advantage of the distribution and revenue opportunities – that's where Trigger comes in – we make it possible,” he said.

The company’s seed round of funding was secured through the AngelList online investor community and includes contributions from SV Angel, 500 Startups, RightVentures and Venture51, along with a number of private investors.
