Thai broadcaster CTH is suing Apple for allowing App Store users to download an app that it claims allows users to illegally watch sport programmes for which it holds exclusive rights.

The Next Web reports that CTH recently gained the rights to show English Premiership football matches in Thailand, which the app provides access to. The Sport Channel HD app is only available in Thailand and is currently priced $29.99.

CTH is looking for around $3 million in damages from Apple, which it said is ultimately responsible for the app.

According to Thailand-based blogger Richard Barrow, CTH was unsuccessful in contacting the developer of the app so resorted to filing legal action against Apple.

The first hearing of the case is set for 18 November although the report suggested it is likely the app will be removed from the App Store before then, meaning the case would not progress.
