Telenav has opened its HTML5 voice-guided GPS navigation service Scout for Apps to developers, enabling them to incorporate the technology into their apps.

The free service provides users with turn-by-turn navigation, and Telenav said it is suitable for social, travel and shopping apps – "or any other app or website that includes points of interest, places or addresses." It can be added to an app by dropping in a single line of code.

Telenav's standard open developer programme is free to join if developers are happy for the service to be supported by mobile ads. Telenav will also offer licensing options for developers wanting a non-ad supported  version.

The technology has already been launched as part of the update of Avantar’s Yellow Pages App, which has more than 90 million monthly listings. It will also be included on the upcoming AroundMe and Life 360 apps as well as mobile invitation app WedVite.

The technology is currently optimised for iOS but Telenav plans to optimise it for Android later this year.
