Telecom Italia (TI) and Amazon reached an agreement which will soon see Amazon’s apps pre-installed on Android smartphones sold by Italy’s largest operator.

Two apps will be supported: the Amazon Mobile App, which allows users to browse and purchase goods from the e-commerce site; and Kindle for Android, an e-reading app for Amazon’s book collection, which has more than 60,000 titles in Italian.

But the deal does not appear to include TI supporting Amazon’s Appstore.

“We’re happy that Telecom Italia offers Amazon and TIM customers now an even easier way to access Amazon Mobile App and Kindle for Android app,” said Xavier Garambois, VP of Amazon Europe Retail.

Devices including the apps will be available by the end of the year.

Amazon has similar partnerships with other operators and boosted its mobile commerce efforts in August by introducing the ability for developers to sell digital and physical goods found on Amazon.com within their apps.

The Amazon Mobile Associates API, allows developers to connect their apps to the millions of items sold via the company’s e-commerce arm, earning advertising fees of up to 6 per cent in the process.
