Messaging app maker Tango is to open up its social platform for third party apps and games, TechCrunch reports.

Tango will make its platform available via an SDK, allowing developers to add a social layer to their apps for users to connect to their friends and family. It will operate on a revenue-share basis.

Gameloft is one of the first companies to integrate Tango’s functionality into its apps, with the soon-to-be-released iOS game ‘Candy Block Breaker for Tango’, followed by ‘JetPack Jinx for Tango’, developed by Bubble Gum Interactive.

As well as allowing in-game communication, the SDK also provides the option to add social leaderboards to games. Developers can choose which elements they include in their Tango-integrated app.

With 120 million users around the world, Tango has been shifting from being a messaging service to a broader social network proposition.
