Spotify is prompting its Android users to upgrade their apps, after it “became aware of some unauthorised access to our systems”.

According to the company, its investigation indicated that “only one Spotify user’s data has been accessed and this did not include any password, financial or payment information”.

The company said that while all users are being asked to re-enter user names and passwords, as an “extra safety step” Android users are being directed to update their apps.

While Spotify said that, currently, just one user has been affected, the efforts it has made seems to imply that others could be at risk.

Oskar Stal, CTO of the company, wrote: “We have taken steps to strengthen our security systems in general and help protect you and your data – and we will continue to do so. We will be taking further actions in the coming days to increase security for our users.”

No additional action has been recommended for iOS and Windows Phone users. And Android users have been advised that “Spotify does not recommend installing Android applications from anywhere other than Google Play or Amazon Appstore”.
