Music service Spotify has given its Android app a significant upgrade to optimise it for the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version of Google’s mobile OS.

The app has had a full redesign with a new slide-out navigation tool and improved social functionality to allow users to see friends’ profile pages and playlists while on the move. Music artwork is shown in high-resolution (pictured) with related artist views available for the first time on mobile. The app is also much faster than its predecessor, according to Spotify.

Further features are also in the pipeline before the app goes live on Google Play, including folders and the ability to better tailor songs through LastFM's scrobbling system.
