Shazam introduced a music discovery feature which lets users follow their favourite artists and see what they are “Shazaming”.

Fans will also be kept up-to-date about new singles, albums, and videos from the artists they follow.

“This gives fans a unique view into the moments when the world’s biggest hit-makers discover music that inspires them”, the company said in a statement.

The news comes just ahead of the worldwide launch of Apple Music, an app which includes a streaming music service with curated playlists, a radio station and a social service enabling artists and users to connect directly.

Shazam said users can listen to songs they discover via Apple Music along with previous options like Spotify and Rdio.

The company is already working with some 30 artists who have 600 million followers in total and plans to work with “hundreds of additional artists” in the future.

Each artist will get a page with their Shazam discoveries, top tracks and music videos.

Shazam also said for the first time it will reveal the number of times each track has been Shazamed.

Last month, it announced a move into visual search.
