Music discovery app company Shazam has teamed with Spotify to give its users direct access to Spotify through a new ‘Play in Spotify’ feature. Users of Shazam’s premium apps can access the service immediately, while the feature will be integrated into the Shazam free app by the end of March. The service will initially be available across the iOS and Android platforms in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Spain and the Netherlands. The ‘Play in Spotify’ feature will take users directly to Spotify where they can listen to the full track that they either tagged or discovered within Shazam from recommendations or the Shazam charts.

Last month Shazam announced it had passed the 100 million user milestone, growing its subscriber base by 25 million over the previous six months. The company has recently moved into the mobile advertising market, working with partners including broadcasters NBC Universal and HBO and brands Dockers and Lynx, to provide customers with related content when tagging a broadcast soundtrack. In November the company announced several deals to brand the “listening screen” displayed when the app is sampling music. Late last year Shazam also struck deals with TCT Mobile and LG to see its apps pre-loaded onto devices.
