Business software company SAP is working with app development tool makers to better enable developers to build apps for its enterprise mobile platform.

The company is working with Adobe, Appcelerator and web app player Sencha to provide an open development framework for developers to use to build apps efficiently and cost effectively.

Developers will be able to run apps on SAP’s enterprise mobile app platform that have been built using Adobe’s PhoneGap hybrid web app runtime environment, Appcelerator’s Titanium app development platform and Sencha’s Touch HTML5 mobile app framework.

SAP president of global solutions Sanjay Poonen added that to create innovative mobile apps, companies need to work with the “wider mobile ecosystem”, an approach central to SAP’s Mobile 2.0 strategy.

"By joining forces with leading mobile app development vendors like Adobe, Appcelerator and Sencha, we are making it easier for large communities of developers, in the millions, to innovate on our platform,” he said.

SAP also announced the acquisition of enterprise mobile app company Syclo to boost the range of apps it offers through the SAP mobile platform. Syclo specialises in vertical sectors such as utilities, oil and gas, life sciences and manufacturing.

SAP said the addition of Syclo will also accelerate the adoption of mobile asset management and field service solutions through the Sybase Unwired infrastructure for the development and management of mobile apps.
