BlackBerry maker RIM said that it will “continue to support developers who have built Adobe Flash-based apps on our platform,” following Adobe’s decision to end support for Flash as a mobile web enabler.

In a blog post, Alec Saunders, VP of developer relations and ecosystem development for the company, said: “As an Adobe source code licensee, we have a lot of leverage through our own integration and support of Adobe Flash and will continue to provide our desktop-class Flash experience to our customers. On its end, Adobe will continue to support the current BlackBerry PlayBook tablet configuration.”

RIM has previously supported Flash as a way to bring cross-platform content to the BlackBerry platform, alongside HTML5 – the technology where Adobe will also now be focusing its resources.

Adobe has also not said it will end support for standalone Flash-based apps, bundled with its AIR runtime.
