BlackBerry maker RIM will add BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) functionality to a number of popular apps when they are updated over the next week.

The Facebook and Twitter apps for BlackBerry smartphones as well as BlackBerry Travel, BlackBerry App World and BBM Music will all feature BBM connectivity, allowing users to get in touch with the contacts and to share and discover new content within the BBM community.

The Facebook and Twitter apps allow users to share their status message or tweets with BBM contacts. The travel app allows users to share information about travel plans and flight changes, the App World app lets them share the latest apps they’ve downloaded, while BBM Music recommends new contacts and allows users to sample songs of others before accepting them as contacts.

The new RIM-developed apps join more than 800 apps on BlackBerry App World that already include BBM integration. RIM VP of developer relations Alec Saunders said one in five apps downloaded on BlackBerry App World now features messaging tech.

The updated Twitter app is available now with the others upgraded apps due to be released in the next ten days.
