Nokia’s updated map service, HERE, has been made available as an app on Apple’s App Store, just days after the company announced the new strategy and branding.

Apple’s own Maps app has been criticised while Google does not have a Maps app for the latest version of iOS, meaning there is scope for Nokia’s service to gain momentum.

HERE offers offline availability, in-app public transport directions and voice-guided turn-by-turn directions for walking.

Although HERE currently has some incomplete transit directions and missing data, being on such a widely-used platform as iOS should speed up the process in which this missing information is added, according to Gigaom.

Nokia is using an HTML5 version of the app to target iOS users and HERE is also planned for Android and Mozilla’s Firefox mobile OS.
