Google is set to add support for gift cards in its Play Store, as well as enabling users to create a “wish list” of apps and content they want, Android Police reports.

Basing its findings on updated Play Store software being rolled out to Android devices, it was noted that while support for the new services is not currently present, it could be enabled in the future.

The introduction of gift cards will provide an additional monetisation method for developers, an area where Play Store has previously been criticised.

It will allow users to add credit to their accounts without the need to provide Google with payment card details.

The wish list feature is similar to that offered by online retailers such as Amazon, and allows customers to store products for future purchase.

According to Android Police, while the new handset software currently does not include any visible changes, the installer file includes images called “ic_menu_market_redeem.png” and “ic_menu_market_wishlist.png”, as well as layout files and other supporting elements related to the two features.
