A group is being established with the intention of promoting the interests of app developers, enabling collaboration and product testing as well as providing support such as training, hosting and government lobbying, InfoWorld reports.

Called Application Developers Alliance, the group is set to ramp up its efforts at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show, as part of an outreach programme that will include meet ups and conferences. While web developers will be welcome, it will be focused on native developers for platforms including Android, iOS and BlackBerry.

According to InfoWorld, Jon Potter, who is behind the initiative, argues: “Our thought now is there's an interesting space in the application developer community that isn't really organised.”

It was suggested that there will also be work to assist developers with issues such as privacy and intellectual property protection.
