VIDEO INTERVIEW: Rob Chandhok, president of Qualcomm Internet Services, said that he remains “bullish” on the potential of HTML5, while noting that “we’re still looking to see HTML5 grow into that full application platform”.

“HTML 5 has been the fabric that has created the commerce and the value in the ecosystem on the Web,” he told Mobile World Live in a video interview. “It will come more fully to the mobile ecosystem when people use the browser as much as applications.”

While Qualcomm may be best known for hardware, Chandhok’s focus is on software. He’s not only interested in improving the browser performance of Snapdragon chipsets, but to create more sophisticated applications and drive the “Internet of Things”.

A key part of that work is AllJoyn, an open source framework developed by Qualcomm, which allows proximity-based P2P connections without the need to connect to mobile networks.
