Cloud gaming service provider OnLive launched availability of an app for tablet and mobile platforms, which it said brings “console-class gaming” to these devices.

The app, which is available in the US and the UK, is said to provide access to “top-tier, high-performance games” via Wi-Fi or mobile networks. OnLive said that a “growing library” of 25 console-class games have been adopted for touch-screen control, and the company is also offering a universal controller compatible with “many” tablets and smartphones to enable users to play more titles.

Games purchased on any OnLive app device (TV, PC, Mac tablet or smartphone) can be played on any other, with save data intact – enabling customers to start games on one device and continue play on another. Other social features, such as “international massive spectating and ‘brag clip’ videos,” are also available on mobile devices.

Earlier this year, device maker HTC announced a US$40 million investment in OnLive.
