Health and fitness app maker Noom has secured $2.6 million of Series A funding which it will use to expand into Asia.

The company plans to launch localised versions of its Noom apps for Android in South Korea and open a marketing office in the country. Korea is already Noom’s third largest market after the US and UK.

UK-based venture capital firm m8 Capital led the funding round, with backing from Qualcomm Ventures, Harbor Pacific Capital and former executives from game publisher Nexon.

Noom hopes the addition of m8 Capital will help its efforts to work with more partners in Europe.

Noom Weight Loss Coach has been the top weight loss app on Android since its launch and has been the top grossing title in the Health & Fitness category since the third iteration was launched in September. Noom’s apps have been installed more than 15 million times.
