Barnes & Noble said in-app purchasing will soon be available for apps running on its NOOK range of Android-based tablets.

The US book retailer said the partnership with mobile payment provider Fortumo will allows users of the 7-inch NOOK HD and 9-inch NOOK HD+ to purchase virtual goods within apps. The functionality will help developers to better monetise their content.

Barnes & Noble said that over the next months, thousands of the most-requested games and apps featuring in-app purchasing will be made available to customers.

Fortumo will provide developers with a dashboard to provide real-time analytics on revenue and how customers are making purchases.

“We are thrilled to bring in-app purchasing to NOOK with Fortumo for our community of developers so they can foster a profitable relationship with their customers, while also providing our NOOK customers with a more in-depth app experience and an even wider selection of popular apps,” said Claudia Romanini, VP of NOOK Apps.
