Nokia has unveiled a new version of its app for Nokia Store for its latest Symbian-based smartphones and Qt-powered N9.

Based on Nokia’s Qt Quick UI runtime, the new client works on the Anna and Belle versions of Symbian and incorporates the new Nokia Store branding, which replaces the Ovi name.

The client has been designed to provide a better user experience with quicker loading and start-up time. It also features permanently visible navigation elements and an updated payment checkout process.

The updated client was developed using the Qt SDK, which a post on the Nokia Developer website said allowed more time to be spent creating the app and less time learning how to use tools.

Nokia senior software engineer Ashwini Bharadwaj said working with Qt made it easier to develop the app for different platforms as the code could be written once and compiled for different platforms. The app was initially written for the Nokia N8 and compiled for Symbian devices afterwards, saving “quite a bit of time” according to Bharadwaj.

A new version of the Nokia Store client for Nokia Series 40 phones is being introduced at the same time.
