US-based mobile games developer ngmoco has bought Rough Cookie, a Netherlands-based programming house, in order to bolster its development capabilities. According to a statement, Rough Cookie will “add creative power to ngmoco’s internal studios.”  ngmoco was itself acquired earlier this year, by Japanese social gaming company DeNA, as part of a plan to take DeNA’s Mobage social network into international markets. It was said that Rough Cookie will provide a presence in Europe to support this, and that the business is “already working on new ngmoco games for the Mobage service.”

According to its website, Rough Cookie was created in 2008, and is focused on “the design and development of premium quality games for high-end mobile platforms including Apple iPhone and Android” – it has also created Windows Phone 7 products. It has worked with publishers such as Chillingo and Taito, although it notes that its “major claim to fame” was creating Star Defense for ngmoco. It was not revealed if it will undertake external development projects now it is under the guidance of ngmoco.
