Sina, China’s largest internet portal, has established a CNY2 billion (US$301 million) fund to encourage developers to create apps for Weibo, the company’s one year-old Twitter-like microblog. Weibo has around 50 million users and its parent is looking for ways to generate some revenue from them. The fund also has support from venture firms including Sequoia Capital and IDG Capital.
