The Netflix iOS app reached number one in Sensor Tower’s top grossing apps chart for iPhone in the US, just over twelve months after the media company enabled users to subscribe to services via in-app purchases.

Earlier this week, it also held top spot in India, Mexico and Colombia.

The app “flirted with the number one spot” in November, without reaching top place, and was also in second place earlier in December before taking the crown.

Focusing on the US figures, Sensor Tower said that since in-app subscriptions were introduced in September 2015, the Netflix app’s weekly net revenue in the US has grown from less than $50,000 to nearly $2.9 million (click image below to enlarge).

“Following some stumbles in the early days of fall 2015, it’s been a steady climb to the number one position,” the research firm said, adding that in the US the app was number seven until just last month.

Netflix recently enabled users to download selected content for offline playback, and is trying to grow its subscriber base through original television and film content.

For instance, it has 20 reality shows such as global competition series “Ultimate Beastmaster” planned for next year, Variety reported.

Last month, Netflix entered Sensor Tower’s top 20 app install advertisers ranking on Facebook for Q3 2016 in the US by upping advertising around its original content.
