Navigation apps company Navmii announced a £2 million funding round, stating that it intends using the cash to further enhance its core GPS navigation services with extra crowd-sourcing features, and accelerate its growth plans into 22 new territories including China and Russia.

Since launching late in 2009, the company has registered more than 8.2 million users, and is growing at a rate of more than 550,000 users per month. Its apps (Navmii and Navfree) have been the top-ranked navigation titles in Apple’s App Store in markets including the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, India and Spain.

Funding was organised by Talis Capital, a London-based investment organiser. Matus Maar, director and co-founder of Talis, said: “We are very excited by Navmii especially as user figures are growing faster than TomTom and Garmin combined on mobile a month in the App store and currently distribute 40 million adverts a month to users.”

Mobile Apps Briefing spoke to Navmii about its work last year.
