Swiss mobile software developer Myriad Group has signed an agreement with Spain’s Telefonica which will enable operators within the group in Latin America to offer a co-branded version of Myriad’s social messaging application to their customers.

Part of the business model behind the app, which is called msngr, involves working with brands from the entertainment sector on sponsored channels. Revenue generated is shared with the supporting operator.

Having reviewed a number of OTT instant messaging services, Telefonica chose msngr because the app will work as a value-added service for their users with smartphones, as well as offering messaging and content-sharing functionalities to its feature phone based users.

Leandro Musciano, Telefonica’s Latin America product & services VP, said: “With msngr our users will have a distinctive experience, connecting with friends and family across the world, driving consumer loyalty in a very competitive region.”
