The maker of the transport app Moovit has partnered with Brazilian operator TIM to offer a tailored version of the navigation service that will eventually be pre-installed on devices.

TIM stores will be highlighted within Moovit, and users will not be charged for data they use until 11 December 2013. The app will then appear on new TIM-provided devices from the first quarter of next year.

Moovit is a free iOS and Android app that provides the best public transport routes using real-time updates from other users. It also provides live maps of nearby stations and trains, estimated travel times, and suggestions for walking routes.

“We see a huge demand for better access to transport information in Brazil, and we are looking forward to changing the passengers’ daily experience together with TIM,” said Omar Tellez, president of Moovit.

Moovit passed one million users in June, after more than doubling its user base in the four months following the launch of the latest version in February.

The company began to roll out the app at the end of 2012, with significant growth in Europe. It has seen more recent growth in the Americas where it launched in a number of new cities in June.

Moovit previously struck a similar deal with Vodafone Spain for the operator’s stores to be marked on Moovit’s city maps of Madrid and Barcelona.
